Personal/Professional Information ~
My name is Karyn Hutchinson. I live on Sugar Island with my husband Tim and my children. I have been teaching for Sault Schools since 2004. I have been teaching 5th grade (my personal favorite) for 13 years. This will be my seventh year focusing on teaching social studies. I have co-written an online social studies book with other 5th grade teachers from around the state. (MI Open Book). I have written items for the state M-STEP social studies assessment in Lansing. These experiences have provided me with extensive training and opportunities to provide my students with a deeper knowledge of reading, writing, and social studies concepts.
My Education Philosophy ~
I believe that every student is a unique individual with diverse strengths and weaknesses. I believe in creating a classroom environment where students embrace these differences and learn from each other. I believe, wherever possible, in tailoring my teaching lessons to fit students' individual needs.
Education ~
I attended Sault Ste. Marie Area Public Schools. I did my student teaching internship at Lincoln Elementary with Mrs. Wynne Newill. I graduated from Lake Superior State University in 2003 with my Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education.
I received my Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction in May 2013.
